Arrests Made in Racially Motivated Vandalism in Oakhurst

March 23, 2016 - The Madera County Sheriff’s Detectives have arrested two juveniles, one 15 and one 16, in connection with the vandalism in Oakhurst. The suspects allegedly vandalized two vehicles by smearing paint, mustard, and feces on them as well as writing things including "faggot", “go back to Mexico” and “cut my grass better…”

The ongoing investigation revealed that initial media coverage of the incident may have scared the suspects into contacting the victim to try to apologize for their actions in the hope that they wouldn’t get in trouble. The investigation will continue to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.

Both juveniles were booked into the Madera County Juvenile Hall for felony vandalism and committing a hate crime.

Racially Motivated Vandalism in Oakhurst

March 22, 2016 - The Madera County Sheriff Department reports at about 1:00 A.M. yesterday, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of vandalism to several vehicles on Pierce Drive in Oakhurst. The victim reported that unknown suspects had extensively vandalized two vehicles in his driveway. A pickup truck had been covered in plastic wrap, and had mustard, paint, and feces smeared in several places on the truck. There were several things written on the truck including “go back to Mexico” and “cut my grass better…”.

Another vehicle in the driveway also had a large amount of paint and feces smeared on it, along with the phrase “go back to Mexico” and several other writings. There were also a number of fresh dents in the body of this vehicle. In addition to the vandalism to the vehicles, there was also toilet paper thrown in the trees and around the front yard.

A neighbor heard his dogs barking shortly before 1:00 A.M. and went to check on the commotion. He saw two people running from the house, one described as about six feet tall and heavy set, the other described as about five and a half feet tall and thin, both were wearing dark clothing.
