TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 99 & 140 

January 10, 2025 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 99 (SR-99), and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows: 

INTERSTATE 5 

• Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through May 31, 2025. 

o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). 

STATE ROUTE 99 

• Full on and off-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at Applegate Road Over-Crossing for striping operations on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 

STATE ROUTE 140 

• Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Monday, March 31, 2025, at 6:00 a.m. 
• One-way traffic control at the San Joaquin River for bridge work beginning Monday, January 13, through Friday, January 17, 2025, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. 

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
