January 24, 2025 – Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office officials report that deputies were on scene of a plane crash in the area of Horseshoe Bend Road in Columbia.   

When deputies arrived on scene, they located a man and a woman inside the wrecked airplane. The woman was able to climb out of the airplane. Fire personnel extracted the man from the airplane. Both the man and the woman were flown to out of area hospitals for medical treatment.

We want to thank our first responder partners and everyone involved during this response for their quick action during this emergency situation. 

Next steps include investigation by outside agencies into the cause of the plane crash. Both the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified.

Please continue to avoid the area as it remains an active scene.
