January 28, 2025 – Mariposa County officials issue a final reminder that the deadline to verify reserved gravesites Mariposa County logo 2020is on Friday, January 31, 2025.

The Mariposa Town Cemetery, the final resting place for residents of Mariposa since the first years of the California Gold Rush, is nearing capacity. In response, Mariposa County Parks and Recreation are asking community members who believe they have reserved gravesites to confirm their claims by Friday, January 31, 2025.

The effort aims to update cemetery records, ensuring space is available for future needs while reallocating unclaimed plots to individuals or families. Residents with existing reservations are urged to follow these steps to complete the verification process:

Contact Information

  • Visit the Mariposa County Parks and Recreation office at 4998 County Park Road to complete a gravesite reservation form.
  • You can download the gravesite reservation form in advance from the department's website at https://www.mariposacounty.org/.../Mariposa-County.

Documentation

  • Submit copies of any certificates or supporting documents related to the reserved gravesite to assist in verifying and updating records.

All claims must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Mariposa County Issues Final Reminder of Deadline to Verify Reserved Gravesites is Friday, January 31, 2025, 2025. After this date, unclaimed reserved gravesites will be forfeited and returned to the County for reassignment.

Upon submission, the Parks and Recreation office will review the materials provided and respond within 30 days.
