Missing Person Search Underway in Mabie 

January 29, 2025 – MABIE, CA – Plumas County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center received a call reporting a missing person. The caller, who had been fishing with two other people on the Middle Fork of the Feather River, located west of Mitchell Lane in Mabie (situated between Portola and Graeagle), stated that one of the individuals had gone missing and was believed to have fallen into the river and possibly been swept under the ice.

A PCSO two-man unit arrived on-site at 2:59 P.M. and immediately made contact with the reporting party. The deputies began searching the surrounding area for the missing individual. Additional resources, including air and ground support from the California Highway Patrol, Graeagle Fire, and U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, were deployed to assist in the search efforts.

Emergency response teams were immediately deployed, including Plumas County Search and Rescue, Eastern Plumas Ambulance, Beckwourth Peak Fire, and additional air and ground support from local agencies. 

Despite extensive efforts throughout the afternoon, the search yielded no results. Due to the ongoing nature of the situation, Plumas County Search and Rescue personnel will resume their efforts at first light on January 29, 2025.

Out of respect for the privacy of those involved, no names or further details regarding the missing person will be released at this time. The Plumas County Sheriff's Office will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
