February 2, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials announce that it is with heavy heart that they announce the passing of retired K9 Cash. Cash began his career with the Fresno Police Department in 2012, partnering with Officer Brian Freer. Cash was certified not only as a Patrol K9, but also as a Narcotic Detection K9.
As a K9 team, they were responsible for the location and apprehension of many dangerous criminals in our community. But Cash was more than just a patrol K9, he was a favorite among our department personnel and community.
He enjoyed interacting with officers during daily briefings and visits to our Dispatchers, CSI and Records personnel. At community events, K9 Cash joyfully interacted with everyone he met, making him the perfect ambassador for connecting our community with our officers.
Hardly a day went by that Officer Freer wasn’t asked, “May I pet your dog?”, to which he happily complied. After his well-deserved retirement from police service, K9 Cash lived out his years with Officer Freer and his family.
We thank him for his service, dedication and love. He will be truly missed.
