Caltrans traffic advisoryTRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 59, 99, & 140 

February 7, 2025 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59), SR-99, and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows: 

INTERSTATE 5 

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through May 31, 2025. 

o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). 

STATE ROUTE 59 

  • Long-term closure lane/shoulder closure at Bear Creek Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. 
  • Conventional overnight lane and sidewalk/shoulder closures at Bear Creek Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10, through Friday, February 14, 2025, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. 

STATE ROUTE 99 

  • Full on ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at Bradbury Road Over-Crossing for drainage work on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 

STATE ROUTE 140 

  • Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Monday, March 31, 2025, at 6:00 a.m.
  • One-way traffic control at the San Joaquin River for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10, through Thursday, February 13, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
