February 8, 2025 - On Friday, the Coalition issued a statement of support for a letter sent today, calling on Secretary Burgum to, “immediately reissue seasonal employment offers for the National Park Service, officially rescind damaging and short-sighted deferred resignation and early retirement offers, and to instead work to safeguard, grow, and shape the National Park Service workforce to meet the needs of our national parks and their visitors.”

 
If national parks continue to lose employees, there will be insufficient NPS staff to greet the millions of visitors who are planning their travel as the busy season approaches,” said Phil Francis, Chair of the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks. “The federal hiring freeze has already led to thousands of seasonal and permanent job offers being rescinded, and other offers delayed – and there are thousands of other NPS jobs at risk of being eliminated. 
 

We appreciate the letter sent today and echo these concerns. Our national parks need employees to protect people and resources. Without sufficient park staff, irreplaceable resources will be put at risk, campgrounds will close, visitor safety will be compromised, and  local economies and businesses will suffer.”
