During the month of March, Sierra Foothill Charter School teachers spoke to students about the Core Virtue of compassion. Yesterday, students who have shown compassion to others throughout the year were recognized in a school wide assembly on Thursday, March 24, 2016.
SFCS 20Congratulations to those students: Anthony Carrillo, Shane Henry (double winner for his classroom and the After School Program), Johann Hill-Zeck, Gabe Walters, Andrayah Collins, Sage Inman, Kensley Silva, Keegan Smerber, and Tyson Shelby.

To go along with the month of March's Core Virtue theme of compassion, Erika Miranda's fifth and sixth graders made short stop motion films in class.

By working alone or in partners, students came up with simple plots that show compassion.
SFCS 5173Students, including Nayo Rhoan, Wyndham Evans, and Malachi Shelton, thought of the setting for their story and created a visual representation of their setting for their background.
SFCS 5201Once finished with their backgrounds, students cut out several characters and took at least 60 pictures that show movement and tell their simple plot. Here are Sayer Harry and Johann Hill-Zeck working on their movie.

Teacher Erika Miranda introduced the students at the school's Core Virtue Assembly. Students said what their videos were about and then showed them. They are very impressive!

If you'd like to see them, they can be viewed on YouTube (10 separate videos, very short -- 30 seconds at most).

For April, staff and students will focus on the Core Virtue of Forgiveness.

Sierra Foothill Charter School is a free, non-profit, TK-8 public school. Open Enrollment for the 2016-2017 school year is happening now through April 14.
