February 16, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials report that on February 13, 2025, shortly before midnight, Northwest officers responded to a call for service regarding shots fired and a large disturbance in the area of West Avenue and Ashlan Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and located an unoccupied ambulance, which had been struck by gunfire. The ambulance personnel were fortunately inside the location, providing medical care to an unrelated call at the time of the shooting.
Witnesses stated that Vehicle #1 left at a high rate of speed. Shortly after, a ShotSpotter activation of two rounds was broadcast at the West Avenue and Princeton Avenue intersection. A K-9 officer located two vehicles parked in the area, one matching the witness’s description.
Both vehicles were occupied by a male driver and a male passenger. As officers approached the vehicles, they noticed a firearm in the lap of Driver #1. All four males were safely removed from the two vehicles.
Video surveillance captured Driver #2 involved in a physical altercation outside a business. The driver retrieved a handgun from his waist and fired the handgun into the ambulance. Driver #1 took the firearm away from the shooter, and they all fled the area in their vehicles.
Vehicle #1:
Driver #1 was charged with PC 25850(C)(6) by knowingly carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle while he was in a public parking lot, PC 25400(A)(1) by knowingly carrying a firearm in his possession in a vehicle, and the firearm was capable of being concealed on his person, and PC 25850(C)(6) by not being listed as the registered owner of the firearm with the Department of Justice.
Passenger #1 was found to be intoxicated and charged with PC 647(f)-Public Intoxication Disorderly Conduct
Vehicle #2:
Driver #2 was identified as the male who fired the handgun at the unoccupied ambulance and was arrested for DUI, PC 25400(A)(2) carrying a concealed firearm, and PC 247(b) using this firearm to shoot at an unoccupied vehicle.
Passenger #2 was found to be intoxicated and charged with PC 647(f)-Public Intoxication disorderly conduct
The firearm was found to be unregistered. All four males were arrested for their individual charges and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
