The Oakhurst Library will be hosting Fabric Artist, Vivian Helena Aumond-Capone on Saturday, September 13th.  This event will be held in the Library’s Community Room from 10:30 a.m. to Noon.  Her presentation’s title will be “From the Traditional to the Art Quilt”.

Quilts are found on every continent and in every culture.  They can be given as gifts, decorate a room, commemorate important events and, yes, warm a bed.  Art Quilting, which is Vivian’s current interest, is using quilting techniques to create art objects.  Art Quilts have more to do with the fine arts than traditional quilting.

At this event, Vivian will display some of her unique touches.  She enjoys adding a variety of beads, buttons and newly-found objects on her pieces.  She is known for her hand dyes and she paints many of her fabrics.

Vivian started her art career painting with oils in the 1970’s.  Over time, she progressed to watercolors and even photography.  In the 1980’s, she made a transition to Traditional Quilting.  And, from there, she has journeyed to Art Quilts.

Vivian’s art is featured in several books: “Showcase 500 Beaded Jewelry” and “1000 Artisan Textiles”.  Vivian’s work is represented at Timberline Gallery in Oakhurst and Madera Circle Gallery. She has won numerous awards for her fiber art. Her mixed media fiber kites were shown at the Cornell Museum of Art and American Culture in Delray Beach, Florida.

Vivian has participated in Sierra Art Trails and this year (October 3-5), her work will be displayed at the Coarsegold Historic Museum in the historic schoolhouse.

If you have any questions about this special presentation, please call the Library at 559-683-4838 or visit: www.oakhurstfobl.com.
