February 17, 2025 – Merced Police Department officials report that the recently installed Applegate zoo sign has been stolen.

We are heartbroken to share that our recently installed Applegate zoo sign has been stolen. We need your help. This sign wasn’t just for the zoo—it was for the families, school groups, and visitors who have a passion for our zoo and rely on it to find their way. If you know anything or saw suspicious activity, or if you live near the zoo and have a security camera, please contact Merced PD at 209-385-6905. Let’s keep our community spaces welcoming for everyone!
