Fire in El Portal Near Yosemite National Park on Saturday, July 26, 2014
This fire began in the afternoon hours near the playground in El Portal.
As structures are threatened evacuations are currently taking place as of 4:33 P.M.
Potential for growth.

Reports are that the fire has reached approximately 2,100 acres in Merced Canyon, near El Portal with no containment according to authorities. Fire officials are reporting that structures have been lost, but are not giving official numbers at this time.

The Yosemite National Park Service has issued a mandatory evacuation order for the Foresta Area of Yosemite National Park. Red Cross shelters are being set up at the Groveland Community Center located at 18583 Main Street in Groveland and the Tenaya lodge located at 1122 Highway 41 in Fish Camp.
Unofficial at 700 acres so far as of 6:45 P.M.

There is a Fire in the old El Portal Area of Mariposa County. Fire Evacuations & Road closures are in effect.
Forest Rd is closed at Hwy 140.
There is heavy Fire and Sheriff activity in the area. Please drive with caution.
All those effected in the immediate fire evacuation area of Old El portal in the Foresta & Buckeye area have been notified. We will update as the situation progresses.
Avoid the area.
