Dr. Sergienko succeeds Dr. Robert Ryder, who resigned from his position as County Health Officer on October 16, 2015 to pursue other professional opportunities.
Dr. Sergienko is a graduate from Oregon State University’s College of Forestry, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Science’s School of Medicine and the University of Massachusetts – Amherst School of Public Health. He completed a residency in emergency medicine at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. Additionally, Dr. Sergienko completed the CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service program in field epidemiology.
Dr. Sergienko is joining the County after a successful 26 year career with the U.S. Navy retiring with the rank of Captain. Board certified in Emergency Medicine and with extensive experience in public health, Dr. Sergienko is completing his final tour with the Navy as the Department of Defense liaison to the CDC in Atlanta. Prior to this, he has served in numerous positions including Director of Public Health, Public Health Emergency Officer, Emergency Physician, and Diving Medical Officer.
As a native of the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Sergienko has ties to this area having spent several years as a seasonal ranger in Yosemite National Park before joining the Navy. Dr. Sergienko, his wife Jody, and their two teenagers, Nick and Anna, are excited to be coming to Mariposa. Dr. Sergienko is looking forward to leading the team to address the public health needs of the residents of Mariposa County and visitors to the area.

He has positive and distinctive leadership qualities that will help mold the County’s Health Department into a cohesive, productive unit. I believe he has the unique ability to coordinate efforts toward attainment of common goals. We look forward to welcoming Eric and his family into the community.”
