Fresno County Coroner’s Office Seeks to Identify Man & Locate Family
March 22, 2025 – Fresno County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on the afternoon of Thursday, February 20, 2025, a man was found deceased in the water of the Fresno-Mendota Slough, east of the city of Mendota. His death appears accidental as there were no obvious injuries.
Our detectives have not been able to identify him through fingerprints, personal property or tattoos (has none). He is described as Hispanic, 5'4", 190 lbs. with a dark colored mustache and goatee.
Due to the condition of his body, we are not releasing photos of him. However, we are providing photos of his clothing, which include the blue jeans and belt he was wearing at the time his body was recovered.
Staff at the Coroner’s Office are hopeful someone will either recognize his clothing or have knowledge of a man who might visit this area and has not been seen in the past month.
Identifying a person and locating immediate family members is a necessary process in order for the Coroner’s Unit to release the body and allow this man to have a proper burial.
Our office will be submitting a DNA sample, however, conducting a DNA test is only useful when a person's relatives have submitted their own DNA sample into the system to cross reference. At this point, it is unknown if such a person is the system who might be a possible match.
Unrelated to this case, something everyone may want to consider, is to submit their own DNA sample to the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Missing Persons Unit. This way if your relative were to ever to be found and was not able to be identified, there would be a sample on file to try and cross reference.
