High-Country Health Food and Cafe in Mariposa California

March 24, 2025 – WINTON, CA – Merced County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on March 22, 2025, at approximately 7:30 P.M., the Merced County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 7100 block of Bobbi Avenue in Winton for a report of a male subject bleeding in front of a residence.

Deputies, along with the California Highway Patrol and Merced County Fire, responded to the scene and located the male lying on the ground with apparent injuries. First responders believed the man sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted by medical helicopter.

Tragically, the victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. His identity is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

Sheriff’s investigators identified a nearby residence where they believed a person of interest may be located. The residence was surrounded, and SWAT responded to assist with the operation. After securing the scene and making entry into the home, it was determined that the individual investigators were looking for was not inside the residence.

Investigators have since located and are currently speaking with two persons of interest in connection with this case.
