April 1, 2025 – Fresno, CA – Fresno Police Department officials report that shortly after midnight on Sunday, March 30, 2025, officers conducting a traffic stop near the Switch Nightclub heard gunshots coming from the parking lot.  As officers arrived at the business, they were told a shooting suspect had fled on foot, firing at security guards and patrons.  Officers quickly located the suspect, 26-year-old Ian McDonough, hiding near a business dumpster.  McDonough had a bullet wound to his lower leg.  During the initial investigation, officers were also advised that a shooting victim, a 26-year-old male, had just been dropped off at a nearby hospital.

Detectives from the department’s Felony Assault Unit responded and began their investigation.  From witness statements and surveillance videos, detectives determined that McDonough and the shooting victim had been in a verbal argument in the parking lot.  During the argument, McDonough pulled out a handgun and began firing at the victim.  McDonough continued to fire as he fled from the scene.  An armed security guard from the Switch Nightclub returned fire, striking McDonough in the leg.

Detectives recovered the handgun that McDonough used as well as clothing that he removed as he fled.

After being treated for his injuries at the hospital, McDonough was booked into Fresno County Jail for Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Carrying a Concealed Firearm and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.

The shooting victim is still at the hospital, currently listed in stable condition.
