April 10, 2025 – Mariposa County Sheriff issues a statement on the decision to not pursue the sales tax initiative for the Sheriff's Office Headquarters & Emergency Operations Center at this time.

After careful consideration, Sheriff Jeremy Briese has made the difficult decision not to independently pursue the sales tax initiative for the Sheriff's Office Headquarters & Emergency Operations Center project on the November 2025 ballot.

This decision was not made lightly. Given the unrealistic time frame and conflicting direction, the Sheriff believes it’s in the best interest of the Sheriff’s Office and the community to pause and regroup, ensuring we have the time needed to create a polished, well-informed proposal – not a rushed one.

This is a major project, not just for today’s law enforcement needs, but to usher in a safe and sustainable future for Mariposa County and its Law Enforcement Services. While this may be a temporary setback, it is not the end. Sheriff Briese remains committed to finding the right path forward to make this important project a reality.

Looking Ahead: The Sheriff is looking forward to the follow-up on direction provided by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, April 1st, and is encouraged by the Board’s request for more information on how the county might initiate additional revenue for this project.
