What You Need to Know:
15 million Californians depend on Medi-Cal to access care- including children, seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income working families. Hospitals, doctors, and clinics rely on timely payments from the state to keep their doors open and their staff paid. This is essential for families and communities across California.

April 13, 2025 - Sacramento, CA – Last week, California Democrats stepped up and voted to protect access for over 15 million Medi-Cal beneficiaries through AB 100. In response to looming threats and uncertainty from House Republicans in Washington, California is securing $2.8 billion in state funds and $8.25 billion in federal funding to keep Medi-Cal running and providers paid.

“This challenge isn’t unique to California. States like Pennsylvania and Indiana are facing even greater challenges. But, while House Republicans vote for $880 billion in reckless health care cuts, California Democrats are taking responsible action to protect the progress of Medi-Cal,” said Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom.

Without swift action, the Department of Health Care Services warned that Medi-Cal could run out of authority to pay providers by April 11. This funding is critical to ensure uninterrupted care for families, workers, seniors and children across the state.
