Traffic Advisory!
April 14, 2025 – Merced Police Department officials announce that as part of a major downtown revitalization effort, street improvements begin today on Monday, April 14 to enhance traffic circulation, support local businesses, and improve accessibility for everyone. Construction will occur in two phases:
Phase 1 – Begins on Monday, April 14, 2025
- Hard closure: 16th Street from M Street to Canal Street (approx. 2 weeks)
- Soft closure: Limited access from K Street for business deliveries and customer access
- Traffic will be rerouted to 15th Street
- Timeline may vary depending on underground conditions
Phase 2 – Starts mid-May 2025
- Full closure of Main Street between M Street and K Street for approximately five days
- Work includes new water main installation and road repairs
During Construction:
- Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrian access
- No parking on Main Street
- Alternative parking available in city lots on 18th Street between K and Canal
The city expects to complete the project by late summer to early fall 2025. Thank you for your patience. We encourage residents, businesses, and visitors to plan for traffic changes and parking adjustments.
