April 27, 2025 - The Rural County Representatives of California (RCRC) reports the Wildlife Resources Committee, a subcommittee of the California Fish and Game Commission, is set to consider a proposal that would place coyotes under a bag limit and seasonal hunting restrictions. The proposal, which first surfaced earlier this year, was controversial due to the lack of notice to the public when it first emerged from the Committee and was forwarded to the Commission.
Many stakeholders are concerned about the prospect of placing a take limit on coyotes, which already pose a threat to livestock herds and can be found in close proximity to even the most suburban communities. A sharp population spike caused by such an action could severely impact public safety and ranching operations around the state.
The Committee is accepting written comments on the proposal through May 2, 2025. RCRC encourages concerned member counties to weigh in on the proposal. The agenda for the meeting can be found on the Commission’s website.
