May 1, 2025 – Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on April 29, 2025, at about 12:40 a.m., Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the North Area Substation responded to a report of shots heard in the area of Kyte Avenue and Hanawalt Avenue outside of the City of McFarland. It was reported that subjects were shooting firearms in the vicinity. Upon further investigation deputies located a vehicle linked to the shots heard.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and a firearm was located. JOSEPH DURAN, age 20, JUAN CABRERA, age 25, and SAMMY FLORES, age 19, were arrested for negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of large capacity magazines, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and possession of an assault rifle. The suspects were subsequently booked into the Kern County Sheriff's Office Lerdo Justice Facility.
