May 7, 2025 – Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on May 5, 2025, deputies assigned to the Special Investigations
Division attempted to locate a felony warrant suspect, Keith Julifs, age 37. Julifs had felony warrants for charges including illegal possession of a firearm and felony evading. Deputies located Julifs in a residence in the 100 block of Ray Street. Deputies learned Julifs was inside of the residence armed with a firearm. Due to Julifs being armed and wanted for felony warrants, a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team callout was initiated.
Once Kern County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team operators approached the residence to arrest Julifs, Julifs shot multiple rounds from an unknown type of firearm. Throughout several hours, Julifs refused to surrender to deputies and continued to sporadically fire rounds at SWAT team operators.
Eventually, Julifs was able to escape the perimeter and run away from the 100 block of Ray Street. With the assistance of the Bakersfield Police Department SWAT team, Julifs was taken into custody.
Julifs was booked into Lerdo Detentions Facility for his active felony warrants. Julifs is also facing felony open charges for PC 664/187 - attempted murder, PC 69 - felony resisting arrest, and PC 29800 - felony in possession of a firearm.
