May 10, 2025 – Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on May 9, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of Water Street for a report of a male subject armed with a hammer, a machete, and a firearm. Upon arrival deputies located a subject armed with a firearm. An officer involved shooting occurred.

Deputies also encountered a female victim reporting she had been shot by the suspect and was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. The suspect was arrested for attempted murder on a peace officer and is currently being treated at the hospital. Suspect information will be released pending confirmation of identity.

A deputy sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the hand during the officer involved shooting and is also being treated at the hospital. Two deputies were involved in the shooting, and they have been placed on critical incident leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Detectives responded to the scene to assume the investigation and the investigation is ongoing. This is a preliminary briefing of the incident. A video presentation to include body worn camera footage and other relevant information will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
