TRAFFIC ADVISORY 
Rest Area Closure & One-Way Traffic Control on Interstate 5
and State Routes 33, 59, 99, 140, & 165  for May 18-24, 2025

May 16, 2025 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 33 (SR-33), SR-59, SR-99, SR-140, & SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

• Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through May 31, 2025.

o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

STATE ROUTE 33

• One-way traffic control from Netherton Road to Newman Wasteway for paving work on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 59

• Long-term lane/shoulder closures northbound and southbound 16th Street Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 99

• One-way traffic control at Sycamore Street/South Avenue for drilling work on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 140

• Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Tuesday, December 31, at 3:00 p.m. through Friday, October 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 165

• One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to State Route 140 for pavement work beginning Saturday, May 17, 2025, through Sunday, May 16, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

• One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to State Route 140 for pavement work beginning Sunday, May 18, 2025, through Monday, May 19, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

• One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to State Route 140 for pavement work beginning Monday, May 19, 2025, through Friday, May 23, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
