May 17, 2025 – Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on May 14, 2025, at approximately 12:50 P.M., deputies from the
Metropolitan Court Holding Facility and Transportation Unit, located at 1415 Truxtun Avenue, were in the process of loading incarcerated individuals onto a Kern County Sheriff’s Office transportation bus.
During this loading procedure, incarcerated person Maminder Singh managed to bypass the bus door, lay on his back, and shimmy under the vehicle, concealing himself. As the bus was exiting the facility, screams were heard, prompting deputies to stop the bus and investigate. Singh was subsequently discovered clinging to components of the undercarriage and was pulled out from under the bus by the deputies.
Singh sustained minor to moderate injuries and received medical treatment following the incident. He is currently in custody facing felony and misdemeanor charges. As a result of this incident, Singh will also be charged with a violation of California Penal Code section 4532(b)(1), attempted escape from custody.
