Lost Hikers Rescued by Search and Rescue, Falcon 30
May 21, 2025 – Placer County Sheriff’s Office officials report that late Friday evening (May 16th, 2025), a GPS distress text was forwarded to Placer County Sheriff’s Office dispatch. The message came from two hikers in the Mumford Bar area who had run out of food and lost the trail. Dispatch exchanged a series of messages with the pair and based on the circumstances, advised them to shelter in place overnight. Their GPS coordinates appeared accurate, giving rescuers high confidence in their location.
At first light, a search and rescue team headed out on foot and located the hikers. Though cold and tired, both were in good condition. With help from Falcon 30, the hikers were hoisted and flown back to the command post.
