May 22, 2025 – Mariposa County officials announce that they are committed to keeping residents informed about
developments in our region.
The company Blue Moon Metals has received federal approval from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to begin underground mineral exploration at the Blue Moon site near Hornitos. This project is situated on BLM-managed land, placing it outside the jurisdiction of the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors.
Recognizing the community's interest in this project, Mariposa County has invited Blue Moon Metals to present about the project at a future Board meeting.
According to Blue Moon Metals, construction on the exploration tunnel is anticipated to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with the creation of approximately 20 jobs in Mariposa County during the two-year exploration phase. The Blue Moon site is located roughly 4.5 miles north of Hornitos, at approximately 37.5660° N, 120.2561° W.
