May 23, 2025 - Madera County - The Caiifornia Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will be conducting several prescribed bums within Eastern Madera County.

Prescribed bums aim to reduce Iarge conflagirative fires and high suppression costs to the citizens of California.

HIGHWAY 41 — Burning will take place on June 2 and 3 from 6:00 p.m. through midnight and will encompass the east side of Highway 41 from Highway 145 to Road 200 in O'Neals. Approximately 104 acres will be burned.

This project reduces the fire threat to unincorporated communities around Coarsegold, O'Neals, and Hidden Lakes, which are isolated residential areas located along the Highway 41 corridor.

VISTA DEL RIO — Burning will take place on June 5 at 8:00 a.m. on the southside of Highway 49 near Vista Del Rio Road in Ahwahnee. Approximately 30 acres will be burned.

This prescribed burn will help protect the evacuation corridor of the surrounding communities.

NORTH FORK WATER TREATMENT PLANT- Burning will take place on June 7 at 8:00 a.m. at the North Fork Water Treatment Plant. Approxirriately 26 acres will be burned.

This prescribed burn will help protect the infrastructure of North Fork.

Traffic may slow or stop within this section for a minimal amount of time. Smoke and fire activity on cut banks with narrow shoulders along the Highway may affect roadway conditions. Please watch for crews and use caution when driving.

These are control burns so please do not report if you are in the project area.
