May 26, 2025 - Lewiston, ME: Astronomically speaking, summer officially begins on June 20, 2025 with the summer solstice, but according to the Farmers’ Almanac Summer Weather Forecast, temperatures may rise before then.

Excessive Heat Warning

The Farmers’ Almanac forecasts warmer-than-average summer weather for most of the nation, warning that “The Heat is On!” This is not great news, especially since recent summers have ranked as the hottest summers in recent history. Editor Sandi Duncan says, “Our extended forecast suggests a very long, hot summer with the heat feeling unrelenting. July may be the month when records are broken nationwide.”

Rainfall Returns to Near Normal

In recent years, New England and the Northeast states have experienced abnormally wet summers. While there are occasional heavy downpours predicted this summer, the Farmers’ Almanac long-range predictions call for near-average summer precipitation in those areas.

Wildfire Watch

However, the Far West may be drier than average, which could lead to widespread wildfire activity.
