The AAUW mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. It is a national group of women (and men) who value education, sponsor community educational forums and provide opportunities for girls and women to reach their full potential.
Mariposa AAUW currently has five signature projects. Tech Trek is a weeklong science and math camp at Fresno State University which encourages middle school aged girls to consider pursuing a STEM career. Speech Trek challenges high school students to research and present speeches on controversial issues. The Backpack Project distributes supplies to eligible students to assure they have the essentials to start the school year. The Dinner with a Scientist Project pairs high school students with female professionals in STEM careers for an interactive evening at UC Merced. The High School Voter Education project educates our local students about voter responsibilities on their 18th birthday.
AAUW programs are supported by community fundraisers such as the “Room with a View” home tour scheduled for Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The tour will feature eight distinctive homes with jaw-dropping views.
