High-Country Health Food and Cafe in Mariposa California

June 7, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials report that Detectives with the Financial Crimes Unit have been investigating a FPD scamcrime trend involving suspects who used social media to resell goods such as movie tickets, food orders, and other services at highly discounted rates. The scammers often advertised these items as “Half Off.” Using stolen credit card information, the suspects made the initial purchases and then collected electronic payments from unsuspecting buyers. This type of fraud has resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in losses for business owners, who were left unpaid when credit card companies reversed the transactions.

Detectives identified several adult suspects and two juveniles in the widespread fraudulent scheme. Multiple search warrants were served, leading to the arrests of the three adults, who were booked into the Fresno County Jail on financial crime-related charges. The suspects were identified as 21-year-old Roman Gonzalez, 19-year-old Diego Gonzales, and 21-year-old Angel Valencia. The two juveniles are not being identified. Additionally, four handguns were confiscated during the search warrant services. An additional male adult, unrelated to the financial crimes investigation, was charged with improper storage of a firearm and having a high-capacity magazine.

One of the juveniles involved in the financial crimes case was also arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and booked into the Juvenile Justice Center. The other juvenile was released to his parents.

As the investigation continues, we urge the public to remain vigilant and avoid purchasing goods or services on social media that are offered at steep discounts, particularly those advertised at “half off” or more. These offers are often linked to fraudulent activity and can lead to unintended consequences for both buyers and businesses.

If you have information on this type of activity, please contact Detective Tim Johnson at 559-621-6312, or you can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 559-498-STOP.
