Prescribed Burns Planned in Eastern Madera County
June 14, 2025 – Madera County – The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) will be
conducting prescribed burns within Eastern Madera County if weather conditions permit and resources are available. Prescribed burns aim to reduce large conflagrative fires and high suppression costs to the citizens of California.
Weather permitting, two prescribed burns will be taking place in Eastern Madera County. The Tesoro Viejo Burn, near the community of Tesoro Viejo, will take place on Friday, June 20. The Minarets Burn will take place near Minarets High School in O'Neals on Tuesday, June 24. Both prescribed burns will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
TESORO VIEJO – Friday, June 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A total of 100 acres will be burned.
The prescribed burn will start on Tesoro Viejo Boulevard and extend north to the Madera Canal. This project will help reduce the fire threat to the community of Tesoro Viejo, located along the Highway 41 corridor.
There should be little impact on Highway 41. There are no plans for slowing traffic or lane closures unless for an emergency.
MINARETS HIGH SCHOOL – Tuesday, June 24 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. A total of 14 acres surrounding the high school will be burned. This project will help protect infrastructure by reducing hazardous vegetation.
There should be no impact on traffic along Road 200.
Please watch for crews and use caution when driving. These are control burns so please do not report if you are in the project area.
