June 14, 2025 – Madera County Sheriff’s Office officials report that at around 9:00 a.m. on Friday, calls were received about a possible body in the water at Bass Lake. Deputies arrived and found the body of man in his 80s in the water about 15 feet from shore. Witnesses say the man was in the process of launching a boat. His cause of death remains under investigation.

The Sheriff's Office reminds you to always wear a life jacket, observe all posted speed and safety zones, and never use drugs or alcohol when operating any watercraft.
