TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 and State Routes 59 & 165
June 20, 2025 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59), and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
INTERSTATE 5
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through June 30, 2025.
o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).
STATE ROUTE 59
- One-way traffic control from Turlock Road to Dana Slough for utility work beginning Monday, June 23, through Friday, June 27, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Long-term lane/shoulder closures northbound and southbound 16th Street Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.
STATE ROUTE 165
- Full highway closure from Fourth Avenue to Second Avenue for special event on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control from Wolfsen Road to State Route 140 for pavement work beginning Saturday, June 21, through Monday, June 23, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and Monday, June 23, through Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
