FOBL logoByron Lewis, a local rare book collector, said determining the price of an old book depends on a variety of aspects including its condition, how many people are seeking it and its subject matter.

On Saturday, May 28, 2016, Lewis will host a workshop at the Oakhurst Branch Library about how to identify which old books are, or will become, valuable. The workshop is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

Lewis, who has been selling old books online for eight years, said he “enjoys” sharing his knowledge about old, rare books. His audience will learn how to identify which books are currently valuable and what price they might expect to receive for their old “gems.”

After his presentation, which includes a slide show, Lewis will answer questions from his audience. He also invites them to bring one of their “possible treasures” for him to evaluate.

Lewis, who now sells his books exclusively on Amazon, said his avocation “takes a lot of research” (he uses software programs to help him scan labels) but “it is a lot of fun.” Some of his favorite places to find old books are library book sales, thrift shops and garage sales, he added.

This free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Oakhurst Branch Library.

The presentation will be held in the Oakhurst Library’s Community Room located at 49044 Civic Circle Drive. For more information, call the library at: (559) 683-4838 or visit: oakhurstfobl.com.
