Sonora Man Arrested for Felony Criminal Threats

June 26, 2025 – Sonora Police Department officials report that on Tuesday, Sonora PD Officers arrested 51-year-old Sonora SPD Sonorahomeless man Eric Z. Hicks following the investigation of criminal threats stemming from an incident at Heaven for Kids park on Greenley Road.

Just before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. Our dispatch call center received a report that a man at the park threatened to stab a woman and her family at the Heaven for Kids park on Greenley Road. At the time of the report, all involved parties had left the park.

The couple reported to officers that they were at the park watching their child play but decided to leave when they heard Hicks yelling and cursing nearby. As they walked through the parking lot, Hicks reportedly began advancing toward the family and threatened to stab the woman, her husband, and their toddler. The couple quickly loaded their child into their car and left the area out of concern for their safety.

At approximately 2:47 p.m., Hicks was located near the 100 block of Hospital Road and taken into custody. He was booked at the Tuolumne County Jail for Felony Criminal Threats.

It's important to remember that the individuals mentioned in this report were arrested based on suspicion of the crimes they've been charged with. All such charges are mere allegations, and all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty. This principle is the bedrock of our legal system and should be respected by all.
