June 28, 2025 – The Mariposa County Arts Council’s Music on the Green concert series marches on with another electric weekend of live music under the stars in historic downtown Mariposa.
We turned up the volume last week with the hard-hitting, high-energy sounds of JNX—Mariposa’s own heavy metal family band—followed by the soulful acoustic folk rock of Terry Barnes’ 2nd Wind, joined by Fresno guitar legend Roger Perry. From shredding riffs to timeless tunes, the Art Park was alive with sound and summer spirit.
This Fourth of July weekend, we’re turning the dial to “funk and fire” with two standout acts that promise to keep the groove going strong.
The Soul Galaxy to perform on Friday, July 4
The Soul Galaxy returns to Music on the Green on Friday, July 4 (the Fourth of July). The Soul Galaxy have performed for Music on the Green for at least a decade, and rightly so. They are one of Mariposa's favorite bands. Lead by guitar virtuoso Tim Hagar, who has had a long and storied career as a guitarist, playing with legends such as T. Bone Walker, John Lee Hooker and many others. On the drums is Jon Kidd, Mariposa's hardest working drummer/singer/songwriter, and Charles Green from Merced holds down the low end on bass. The band is likely to be joined by at least one special guest and is sure to rock the socks off the art park in superb fashion!
Skull Country to perform on Saturday, July 5
The Neo-western trio Skull Country returns on Saturday, July 5. From Calaveras County, lead by virtuosic multi-instrumentalist Nicholas Lefler, this band performs original compositions mixed with a few covers everyone will recognize. With their unique approach, the guitarist also plays and loops the percussion, and original songs and style, prepared to be captivated by Skull Country.
Bring something to sit on, something to block the sun, something to sip on — and get ready for another unforgettable weekend of live music in the heart of Mariposa.
All performances begin at 7 p.m. at the Mariposa County Art Park, located at 5013 Hwy 140 in the heart of historic downtown Mariposa. Parking is available along 4th and 5th Streets, with accessible pedestrian access via the lower 5th Street parking lot through the Mariposa Creek Parkway entry.
Tips for the performers are appreciated and encouraged.
