July 1, 2025 - Washington, D.C. – On Monday, Senate Republicans blocked a motion offered by U.S. Senator Adam
Schiff (D-Calif.) that would protect families with children under the age of 12 from any cuts to their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
“My motion was simple. It would have prevented families with kids under 12 from losing food assistance under the bill. Now they will go hungry, so Republicans can use that money for tax cuts for wealthy families. This is heartbreaking. And so selfish. Taking away food from kids for tax cuts,” said Senator Schiff.
Schiff serves on the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, which has jurisdiction over the SNAP program.
