July 5, 2025 – Madera CHP officials report that on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, just before 10:00 a.m., CHP Madera officers responded to a two-vehicle crash, at the intersection of Avenue 25 and Road 9.
A 41-year-old woman from Los Banos, CA was driving a white 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan, traveling southbound on Road 9, approaching the intersection at Avenue 25. A 57-year-old man from Tulare, CA was driving a tractor trailer combination (white Freightliner), traveling eastbound on Avenue 25, approaching Road 9. At this location, traffic on Avenue 25 has the right-of-way and traffic on Road 9 is controlled by posted stop signs with flashing red lights.
The driver of the Dodge failed to yield the right of way to cross traffic and entered the intersection, directly into the path of the Freightliner. The front of the Dodge collided with the left rear of the Freightliner’s trailer. Due to the major damage to the Dodge, the driver had to be extricated by emergency personnel. She sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC).
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash. The driver of the Freightliner did not sustain any injuries.
Never assume all intersections are a 4-way stop. Always come to a complete stop at stop signs. Watch carefully for cross traffic, cyclists, and pedestrians before entering the intersection. Only proceed when it is clear and safe to do so.
