Injured Hiker at Little McGee Lake – Thursday–Friday, July 10-11, 2025 | 25-381 | Op#19

July 17, 2025 – Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue Team officials report that on Thursday evening at 6:06 P.M. (1806 hours), the Team was called by the Sheriff’s Office for a 69-year-old female with a shoulder injury sustained from a fall above Little McGee Lake, roughly 8 miles from the McGee Creek Trailhead. Rescue Base was established at the McGee Creek Trailhead, and Rescue Operations deployed three separate field teams: Team 1, a hasty medical team; Team 2, a litter transport team; and Team 3, a communications relay team. Operations also requested a helicopter, but due to weather in the area, one was not available.

Team 1 arrived at the subject at 10:11 P.M. (2211 hours), performed a medical assessment, treated her injuries, and packaged her for evacuation. Initially, Teams 1 and 2, along with the subject, began the long walk out under her own power. However, not far down the trail, the decision was made by the field teams and Operations to transition the subject to the litter for the remaining 6 miles.

Team 3 returned to base at 3:45 A.M. (0345 hours). Teams 1 and 2 reached base an hour later at 4:44 A.M. (0444 hours). Mono County Medic 3 was also on scene where the subject was further assessed, treated, and transported to Mammoth Hospital for further care.

The operation was terminated at 4:44 A.M. (0444 hours), Friday, July 11.
