July 19, 2025 – Fresno Police Department officials report that on Sunday, July 6, 2025, just after 9:00 p.m., Northwest officers responded to the area of Shaw Avenue and Marks Avenue regarding a four-round ShotSpotter activation.

Upon arrival, officers located four expended casings in the parking lot. As officers were canvassing the scene, a gunshot wound victim was contacted and transported to CRMC for treatment and is currently in stable condition.

Felony Assault (FAU) detectives were able to obtain surveillance video, which showed the victim being chased by four males and ultimately shot by one of the males in the group. With the assistance of MAGEC detectives, the shooting suspect was identified as Julian Nathaniel Benavidez (pictured below), and a warrant for his arrest was served on July 17, 2025

Benavidez was taken into custody without incident. FAU Detectives authored a residential search warrant for a residential location, and a firearm believed to be used in the crime was located.

Julian Nathaniel Benavidez was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail for the shooting for PC 245(a)(2), PC 29820(b) PC 25400(a)(2), PC 12022.55, PC 12022.53(b), PC 12022.53(c), PC 12022.53(d).  He was additionally arrested and booked for an additional case (#2507170941) for possession of a firearm.
