July 22, 2025 – Madera CHP officials report that on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at approximately 9:18 p.m., CHP Madera officers responded to a traffic crash on Road 35, south of Avenue 14.

CHP officers learned the following:

A 19-year-old from Madera, CA was driving a black 2005 Nissan Altima, northbound on Road 35, south of Avenue 14, at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the Nissan and veered to the left, across the southbound lane, and into the west dirt shoulder. The right side of the Nissan collided with a PG&E power pole and a wire fence. The Nissan then overturned and came to rest on its right side.

Life saving measures were performed on the 20-year-old male passenger, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.

The driver was determined to be under the influence and was placed under arrest for felony DUI. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. He remains in CHP custody and will be booked at the Madera County Jail when cleared by the hospital.

The passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver was not.

Driving under the influence doesn’t just risk your own life, it endangers passengers, other drivers, and innocent bystanders. Every decision to drive impaired increases the chance of tragedy.
