July 27, 2025 - CUPERTINO - Last week, Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens (D-Silicon Valley) issued the following statement condemning Republicans in Congress and Donald Trump for defunding Planned Parenthood in the federal budget resulting in the announced closure of five Planned Parenthood Mar Monte health clinics in Northern California:
Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens said, “I stand with Planned Parenthood Mar Monte and mourn the closure of five of their 35 community health clinics, as well as the discontinuation of family medicine, behavioral health, and prenatal care services at their clinics.
I strongly condemn Republicans in Congress and their big ugly federal budget signed by Donald Trump which precipitated these closures and discontinued services by illegally targeting and blocking all federal funding to Planned Parenthood providing necessary health services to struggling American families.
As a Member of the California State Assembly Budget Committee, I am proud I was able to work with my colleagues to protect California’s existing state funding for Planned Parenthood despite a challenging budget year, and I will continue to work with my colleagues moving forward to guarantee healthcare access to all.
It is disgusting that Republicans in Congress and Donald Trump continue to work harder to hide files detailing Jeffrey Epstein’s co-conspirators and to deny Americans access to health care than doing their jobs building a better America for all.”
Assemblymember Patrick Ahrens represents the Silicon Valley in the California State Assembly for District 26. He serves on the Assembly Committees on Budget, Business and Professions, Communications and Conveyance, Rules, Transportation, and Budget Subcommittee No. 2 on Human Services. Assemblymember Ahrens is the Co-Chair of the California Legislative Technology & Innovation Caucus, and a member of the California Legislative Jewish and Bay Area Caucuses.
