TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 and State Routes 59, 140 & 165
August 1, 2025 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59), SR-140 and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
INTERSTATE 5
- Full closure of the northbound I-5 Connector Ramp to eastbound SR-152 for drainage work on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through August 31, 2025.
o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).
STATE ROUTE 59
- Long-term lane/shoulder closures northbound and southbound 16th Street Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.
STATE ROUTE 140
- One-way traffic control from SR-33 West to Kniebes Road for utility work beginning Monday, August 4, through Friday, August 8, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to the Gustine Railroad Crossing for sidewalk work beginning Monday, August 4, through Thursday, August 7, from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
STATE ROUTE 165
- One-way traffic control at Greer Avenue for survey work on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
- One-way traffic control from Williams Avenue to Geer Avenue for tree work beginning Thursday, August 7, through Friday, August 8, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
