September 10, 2014 - Republican Congressional candidate and military veteran Art Moore released the following statement today regarding his opponent, Rep. Tom McClintock’s record of voting against the Violence Against Women Act.

“The NFL’s bungling of the Ray Rice case reminds us that society must elevate the issue of violence against women as a human rights issue that requires us to take strong stands to protect women from abuse.

But the NFL isn’t alone in being negligent on this issue. My opponent, Tom McClintock, is one of only nine members of Congress to oppose the Violence Against Women Act on three separate votes. This act elevates the issue of violence against women and provides resources to fight for victims. He was wrong to oppose it and I would have voted differently.

This is more evidence of how out of touch this career politician is to the values of the Fourth District. Tom McClintock’s legacy in politics is not to fight for others but only to feather his own nest while feeding at the public trough. It’s time for a change. I will fight for our district and give us the representation we deserve.”

McClintock voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act three times (2-28-13 on H. AMDT, 2-28-13 on S. 47 and 5-16-12 on H.R. 4970)
