Shooting Leads to Arrest in Jenny Lind 

August 6, 2025 – Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on August 2nd, 2025, at approximately 7:30 P.M., Calaveras County Sheriff logoCalaveras County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the 10000 block of Milton Road, Jenny Lind, California.

Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to their upper extremity. The victim reported that he had been visiting a relative earlier that day when the incident occurred. During the visit, Suspect Jose Luis Preciado, age 50 of Jenny Lind, became increasingly paranoid and agitated for unknown reasons. As a result, the victim decided to leave the property. The victim retrieved his dog and began leaving the property in his vehicle. While backing out of the driveway, the suspect allegedly fired one shot toward the victim’s vehicle, striking him. The victim was able to continue leaving the scene and contact 911 to report the incident.

Deputies observed a bullet hole in the victim’s windshield and recovered additional evidence from inside the vehicle. Based on the preliminary findings, detectives were requested to respond to the scene to assist with the investigations and evidence collection.

Through investigative efforts, detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. During the search warrant service, detectives recovered one (1) .40 caliber pistol and one (1) .40 caliber carbine and ammunition matching both firearms. Both firearms and ammunition were collected and booked into evidence.

Jose Preciado was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Calaveras County Jail and charged with Penal Code 664/187(a), “Attempted Murder”.
