August 8, 2025 – CAL FIRE officials report that roadside prescribed burns are a powerful tool to reduce wildfire risk, improve firefighter safety, and protect nearby communities.

This recent prescribed burn along Highway 128 near Winters in CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit is a great example of this proactive approach. By clearing excess vegetation along key roadways, firefighters create safer evacuation routes and stronger fuel breaks.

CAL FIRE is committed to using every tool available to build wildfire resilience—and prescribed burns are a proven way to help keep Californians safe.
