TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Rest Area, Lane & Full Highway Closures
Interstate 5 and State Routes 59 & 140
August 9, 2025 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 59 (SR-59), and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
INTERSTATE 5
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through August 31, 2025.
o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).
STATE ROUTE 59
- Long-term lane/shoulder closures northbound and southbound 16th Street Bridge for bridge work beginning Monday, February 10 at 8:00 p.m. through Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control from West Olive Avenue/Santa Fe Drive to Bellevue Road for striping operations beginning Sunday, August 10, through Friday, August 15, 2025, from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- Full highway closure on southbound SR-59 from West Olive Avenue/Santa Fe Drive to Cooper Street for utility work beginning Monday, August 11, through Friday, August 15, 2025, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
STATE ROUTE 140
- One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to the Gustine Railroad Crossing for sidewalk work beginning Monday, August 11, through Friday, August 15, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to the Gustine Railroad Crossing for sidewalk work beginning Monday, August 4, through Thursday, August 7, from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible.
This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
