August 14, 2025 – El Dorado County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Wednesday, August 12th, while at the bottom of the Cosumnes River Gorge hiking with friends, a subject unfortunately broke his ankle. This location, while very popular for climbing, hiking, and enjoying the river, is extremely dangerous and inaccessible by vehicle. Due to his injury, the hiker was not able to self-rescue due to the steep terrain and emergency services were called. CalFire, recognizing the situation and acting in the best needs of the patient, requested Echo 1 for a hoist rescue. The crew of Echo 1 was able to fly into the gorge and hoist the patient to safety. The patient was flown to a nearby landing zone where he was transferred to CalFire’s care.
It is always a pleasure to work as a team with CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit to serve the residents and visitors of El Dorado County. Please be safe out there!
